We received this Lemur teaser video…
It appears to show a Lemur app on iPad controlling Konkreet Labs’s custom MeeBlip hardware synth via the iConnect MIDI interface for iOS. The Lemur app was originally sighted by Peter Kirn at Create Digital Music (http://createdigitalmusic.com/2011/11/spotted-lemur-interface-running-on-ipad/) We hope to hear more at CDR Knowledge on Dec 7th!

Retronyms is a small company (about 10 people spread across developers, designers, and marketing) but we all have a lot of experience working with audio software development, even including as musicians prior to the iPhone & iPad. We drew on a lot of that experience in conceptualizing and designing Tabletop. After learning a lot about music apps for iOS through Rebirth, Dopplerpad, FourTrack, and Synth, we wanted to develop a full audio environment designed specifically for iPad. We saw how much people enjoyed Apple’s GarageBand, but felt there was an opportunity to have something like this for electronic music.
Our hope is that Tabletop is so accessible that anyone can pick it up and start having fun even though we built it to be very deep and expandable. Combining instruments and effects is both intuitive and loaded with complex potential. This isn’t just a musical toy but could be used by professional musicians as part of their songwriting and performance process. We were lucky enough to work with electronic musicians in developing sounds and workflows from the ground up. Los Angeles electronic artist Salva has already commented about how it’s become an important songwriting tool for him on the road, and we’ve received numerous comments about people composing on the plane and during train trips. As we continue to add more devices into the Tabletop platform, some will be very complex & geared towards experienced musicians (i.e. the new RS4000 Synth is fully configurable and will benefit from an experienced user) but we also hope to add more tools like the Spinback turntable & Gridlok sampler that let you work with existing sound samples or MP3 tracks from your iPad library to help less experienced users kickstart the creative process.

We don’t think that the future of music production will take place exclusively on tablets, since musicians today are still using older hardware synthesizers, drum machines & acoustic instruments in addition to more modern software-based tools, but we do think that tablets will have a revolutionary effect on music production. If you think about the cost of building a music “studio” 20 or 30 years ago, or purchasing professional-quality software even 5 or 10 years ago, it’s pretty amazing to see what can be done with a few inexpensive apps on an iPad or an iPhone today. Right now people may not take these apps too seriously, but the first software synths and production tools weren’t seen as “pro quality” either, and eventually came to dominate much of the music industry. We think the same will happen with tablets as well. Furthermore, tablets are naturally touch-driven and offer a closer, more expressive relationship to software than traditional controllers. Tabletop is an example of how the feel of a studio environment can be translated to software without losing the direct connection between your fingers and software. It’s an exciting time for mobile device and music making!

Today we’re incredibly excited to add the KORG iKaossilator to the SoundCloud App Gallery.
KORG changed the way in which anyone could start making music by introducing an intuitive X-Y touch pad into their Kaoss products. The iKaossilator takes the essence of the Kaossilator and injects it into the iPhone - turning the phone screen into a powerful synth.
The addition of SoundCloud sharing means that you can share your iKaossilated tracks from anywhere with anyone. The app is available with a 50% discount until December 31st, 2011.
Share your iKaossilator tracks to the group today!
